Song Spotlight: Chloe Coover's Don't Look at Me Like That (a night at Zebulon)

Is yellow the "It" color for the summer of 2026? Chloe Coover walked onto the Zebulon stage wearing a yellow mini-dress. A few days later, I came across the "world's only natural yellow haired" singer (a joke, if anyone was wondering). It is a striking color that leaves an impression.

Per her Spotify bio, she "asks the questions, filtering love, life, and loss through the lens of a bittersweet lovelorn doll." There is also a seamless blend of country and lounge singer genres. The set started off with "Jealous Bone." With a desert wind opening and deep vocals, the song had me thinking Johnny Cash. Then "Puppet Show" had me thinking about Michelle Pfeiffer in The Fabulous Baker Boys

What did I notice: those fingers. She has long fingers and she uses them for dramatic purpose throughout the set. And well, while looking through my photos, I tried to mimic some of those hand motions, because I was trying to figure out how she did it.

She recently released her debut album Social Butterfly. She ended the set with her title track, a breezy tune that had her playfully prancing on stage to close it out.

The song spotlight goes to "Don't Look at Me Like That." It was mentioned that a music video was just released for the single. A country song that explores the ever consistent heartbreak of a bad woman cowgirl. Maybe there is hope as she ended the song with a heart sign and a curtsey.

She don't deserve it. She's much too pure.

Setlist: Jealous Bone, Puppet Show, Ran Thru, Kits, Don't Look at Me Like That, Walking in the Dark, Social Butterfly.
