Song Spotlight: Darienne Savoy's Frozen In Time (a night at Hotel Ziggy)

Darienne Savoy opened up a December night at Hotel Ziggy the right way for the WFNM crowd. Her R&B vocals were smooth and polished, delighting all. Joining on keys and backing vocals was her producer Noriko Olling while Kaili Sincere and Aaron Junior provided additional backing vocals. And I should not forget that hidden off to the side was guitarist Yohei Nakamura.

She mentioned that it was her first ever show in Los Angeles. The set was mostly dedicated to playing songs off her debut album Work Of Art: Exhibit A. The first song of the set "In Too Deep" highlighted those vocals that just seemed so wonderfully effortless that skipped across vocal octaves like the smooth stone you send skimming across a crystal clear lake.

Her song "Mona Lisa" has a lovely reprise. "Mona Lisa" itself has a buzzy beat, but then transitions to a grand piano conclusion that featured her backing vocalist Aaron Junior. "Bleed" is worthy of a Disney cartoon Best Original Song Oscars winner. Included in the set was a rather impressive cover of Michael Jackson's "Human Nature." I suspect we'll be hearing a whole lot more Michael Jackson covers from now on as the world prepares for the April 24th biopic Michael

Her Spotify bio has the following info about the Waldorf, Maryland native:  She loves to treat her music as if it were a diary, taking her life experiences from her mind and heart to pen and paper and giving them a new life, lyrically.

That quote fits perfectly for the final song of the night (as well as the concluding song of the album), "Frozen In Time." It is a song about the difficulty of moving on from a relationship (be it a lover or a plutonic friendship). It is sung with the emotion of personal "life experiences."
