The Oakland raised, SoCal based Destinee Alera hit all the perfect R&B and jazz notes at a recent WFNM showcase at Hotel Ziggy. She had a four piece backing band (guitar, bass, keys, drummer) that highlighted the lovely nuances of her music.

A little bio info: based on her Instagram account, she graduated from UC Irvine in 2022.
Since her set took place during the season of love, she started off her set with a song dedicated to love, "Rhythm." The R&B song has her perfecting the sliding singing of the lyrics with words stretched out to the perfect length before gliding along once again.
Comment of the set: I was cold, now I'm hot.

Moment before the set: I was taking a (TMI) bathroom break and happened to notice her bassist running past me towards the green room -- assuming she suddenly realized that she had left behind an important part of her gear.
She sang an unreleased song called "Body Heat" that she described as having "Erykah Badu vibes." Her song "Hideaway" was described as "lo-fi R&B" and a love song with "coffee shop vibes." The song starts off with "spoonful of sugar, one cup of coffee, teaspoon of honey." It could also be describe as a song about wanting to just lounge at home after an exhausting week at work. She was wearing fuzzy open toe house slippers that gave her set a relaxing at home experience.

I do have to mention she has hand artistry.
The song spotlight goes to her most recent release "Horizon." She mentioned on a recent Instagram post that she wrote the song with "no blueprint, literally just freestyle and sang whatever came out and built from there." If you've followed my blog posts, you do know I have a soft spot for jazz and this song includes those elements. It is a song that expresses how during different times in our lives (perhaps even during short periods of times) we wonder what we should do.
