I recently got to cover a night at the El Rey Theatre for US Rocker Music (you can read my article here) and the band that perhaps impressed me the most was the opening band Velvet Chains. Why? They've a hard rock band that just took me back to the days when Def Leppard and Poison ruled the airwaves. As I mentioned in my review, their song "Dead Inside" reminded me of Evanescence.

Per their Wikipedia, the band was founded by Nils Goldschmidt in 2018 as a Las Vegas cover band before transitioning to original tunes. The band must have caught the eye of Guns N' Roses as members of both Duff McKagan's band Loaded and Guns N' Roses made guest appearances on their debut album. In 2024, they opened for Slash.

Not only did their hard rock hit the spot for me, but I loved their stage show. There was hardly a moment where there wasn't movement on stage. There was no hanging out in their own corner of the stage.
Fun moment of the set: the band ended it all by asking the crowd to let them take a picture with them. All the members gathers together for the photo.

The song spotlight goes to their latest release "Dead In The Head." A scratchy rock jam about feeling unable to escape the unwanted situation you're in (my interpretation).
Torn apart while I’m reaching for the lightCan’t escape from the prison of my mind
Velvet Chains setlist: Wasted, Ghost in the Shell, Hurt Me, Suspicious Minds, Dead Inside, Sins, Dead In The Head, How The Story Ends.
