The ACA opened up the night at Zebulon. It was the final residency night for Primitive Ring (you can read a 2024 review I wrote of the band here) and The ACA was a heart pumping way to start off the night. By the end of the set, the crowd was chanting "ACA! ACA! ACA!" If you're wondering what exactly is the meaning behind their band name, the song title of the final song is "The Affordable Care Act."

The trio includes lead vocalist-guitarist Ian Scott Waters, backing vocalist-bassist Nico Madden, and drummer Sean Harvey. An interesting coincidence of this particular week is that Ian Scott Waters occasional plays guitar for Secret Smiles. I saw The ACA on Tuesday and on Monday I was at Harvard & Stone where the drummer of the band, Ann Seletos, was doing a solo set (on guitar). It was a Secret Smiles week for me. Also, if my research is correct, it was a Deafheaven night as Ian Scott Waters is a touring member and Sean Harvey works the sound.
The rock-metal band came up on stage and let out life's stresses by screaming it out. The crowd joined in the screams. Waters tossed his guitar around his body so much during the set that for one song he was clinging to his guitar for dear life as the strap had slipped off his back. As for Madden, the iconic line from boxing legend Muhammad Ali came to mind, "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee." He was fleet-footed as he moved across the stage. Harvey was relentless throughout the set. Waters and Madden occasionally would face off with him, pushing him to go all the harder. One has to believe that he woke up the next morning feeling the burn in his arms.

To end the set, Waters went out into the crowd and did some body slamming. Both he and Madden gave hand slaps to those at the front of the stage. Then the two hugged it out. They gave props to Harvey as he incessantly kept up the beat. The set came to a conclusion with Madden giving out one last final scream.
The band only has two released songs out there on the Internet. The band had few words to say on stage, but one word they did yell out was "Dos!" It seems appropriate to make "Dos Capital" the song spotlight. A relentless tune that represents their high energy performance. The recording is like an end of credits movie scene. The recording goes quiet for about 22 seconds before picking it up again with a drum beat finale.
