Song Spotlight: Luna Aura's HONEY (a night at the Moroccan Lounge)

Unfortunately, Rocknite is searching for new home as The Goldfish is ending (mostly) live music. They're off searching for a new home via a Rocknite tour across various Los Angeles venues. They started off on April 1st at the Moroccan Lounge. It was a line-up to remember. This Song Spotlight post is dedicated to Luna Aura, but I should make mention of opener Katy Kenny. It was April Fool's day and as she said the joke was on her. She mentioned that she's a punk rocker, but had to turn her set into an acoustic one because both her bassist and drummer had to bail due to totally legit reasons (illness and car problems). She said that she also had to make a couple trips back and forth from the Moroccan Lounge, because she had forgotten her merch at home.

This was my second time catching a Luna Aura (moniker for Angela Flores) set. The first time was back in 2021 at Bar Lubitsch. The line-up included Haiden Henderson who just finished up a tour opening for 5 Seconds of Summer. I was so impressed with her set that I listed her as one of my favorite new artists of 2021 (you can read that list here - I've got to say, there are some awesome bands / artists on that list). I also mentioned in that article that I thought that Luna Aura and Holy Wars should go on tour together. On this particular night, Kat Leon was in the audience so who knows, maybe that wish will still happen some day.

What did I notice: her photographer was at the front of the stage prior to the start and was looking towards the green room, assuming looking at Luna Aura. He then started to move the microphone stand to a specific spot on the stage.

The three piece band then came out onto the stage with a blast and noisy beginning. Per Dream Adopters, the band is known for a blend of "alt-rock grit with a modern bite." Their music had me rocking out with camera in hand. For some reason, the Rocknite crowd was on the shy side and had to be told to get to the front of the stage, "Why is there like 50 feet of space?" The Moroccan Lounge kept the band lit with only back lights. The result was that Luna Aura often disappeared in the shadows before coming back into view as if like a phantom that was jumping from one end of the stage to the other.

The crowd might have been off 50 feet from the stage to start of the set, but by the end, they were headbanging to the band's alternative rock sound.

It was mentioned that this was the band's first set in a year and a half.

My song spotlight goes to a song I suspect was part of the Bar Lubitsch set back in 2021: "HONEY." A song about a woman who knows she has owns the power dynamics in the relationship and the poor guy just doesn't realize it.

I knew you weren't ready for a girl like me.

Setlist: MONEY BAG, CANDY COLORED DAYDREAM, YOU SUCK, I'M FREE, FALLING ASLEEP, SAY WHAT YOU MEAN, BURN, LOST IN THE FICTION, RIDE, HONEY.
