In Sonic Dreams has been bringing back the Los Angeles bands from yesteryear to The Fable. In February, Bloody Death Skull and Eli Tarantulas of The Monolators were featured performers. This March, one of those yesteryear bands was Pisces (the moniker for Sarah Negahdari). For those who have been hanging out in the Los Angeles music scene, you are likely more familiar with Negahdari's other band Happy Hollows.

My connection with Happy Hollows goes all the way back to 2009 when the band played Spaceland (later called The Satellite, which permanently shut down in 2020). I saw them play with some of my favorite bands from those days: Eastern Conference Champions (Joshua Ostrander's band prior to
Monda Cozmo),
Gothic Tropic, and the two piece band Pity Party (that specific night was my first encounter with Happy Hollows).
My last time crossing paths with Negahdari was 2018 so, of course, I made it out to The Fable. She mentioned the last time she played a set was a year ago. This made it a special set and plenty of friends show up to celebrate her return onto the stage. She even pointed out a few of them in the audience whenever they crossed pass her vision.

The night almost didn't happen. She said that she got an Instagram message from
Joey Siara (also played this particular night). Feeling overwhelmed with everything that is going on in the world, she decided to say no to the request. There was a change of heart the next morning. She noticed that Siara had not read her message so she deleted it and responded that she would like to play a set. The rest of the story came later. Siara admitted during his set that he had seen her "no" response, but just hadn't responded back.
What did I immediately notice: Be it 2009 or be it 2026, Negahdari sings with a high level of happiness. Perhaps that is why we old-timers have the band Happy Hollows. She did want everyone to know that, "I have a dark side."
As for Pisces' sound, the Spotify bio has this tidbit, "Pisces features lushly blended vocals combined with elements of folk and psychedelic rock, while still showcasing strong pop melodies and innovative song structures." An example of blending folk and psychedelic has to be the song "Voodoo" that features whimsical folk vocals and guitar playing that has a psychedelic rhythm. That song, along with all the other songs that night, got positive cheers from the crowd.

"Voodoo" was released in 2014 so I'll go with the 2025 "Driver" as the song spotlight. It delves straight into folk with a pinch of Fleetwood Mac.
