Song Spotlight: EZ Tiger's Outside Your Sun (a night at Frogtown Brewery)

I missed the first trio of songs of EZ Tiger's set at Frogtown Brewery. I misjudged how long it would take to do my Friday evening exercising. Others did not make the same mistake as the outdoor venue (that is walking distance from Zebulon) was packed. It was potentially the most packed crowd I've seen at the venue. The impetus for the crowd was twofold. First, the band was celebrating the single release of "Outside Your Sun." Second, it was the birthday celebration for drummer Kristy McInnis. I was told that McInnis used to be in one of my favorite "back in the day" bands called The Randies. I think her time as their drums ended after I crossed paths with the band. My first photos of The Randies are from Dec 2006, at which time they had a different drummer. Though I saw them once prior to that -- maybe she was on drums for that show, but I can't recall.

As for how long I've been following EZ Tiger? My encounters date all the way back to 2010. That is crazy, right? The last time I saw them, they were playing with Honeychain. I mention this, because on this particular night, they were also sharing the bill with Honeychain.

The four piece band is led by singer-guitarist Tina DiGeorge, keyboardist Debbie Shair, bassist Teresa Cowles, and the aforementioned drummer McInnis. I'll go with their bandcamp description of their sound, "driving pop/rock."

The pop sound is driven by keyboardist Shair who used to play with Heart. I would say that she was having more fun on stage than any of the other three members. There was a mischievous grin throughout the set. A close second had to be McInnis. She might have been at the back, but it was a don't forget about me situation -- and why not, as it was her birthday. The happy birthday song was sung by the crowd. DiGeorge told everyone in the crowd to just sing the song in whatever key they wanted to sing it in. There were cupcakes available for all. I'm on a goal of losing a few pounds so I skipped out on the offer.

The song spotlight goes out to their single release "Outside Your Sun." The band asked the crowd to give a listen to the recorded version, "Come scan the QR code and give it a listen" Then realizing that it was an amusing comment considering the context, " . . . we're going to play it right now." DiGeorge also mentioned that it was her wife's favorite tune.

It is a tune with driving guitar lines and emotionally raw vocals. With spring just around the corner, this is a perfect song to wake the body out of those winter time blues.
