Before heading off to Zebulon to check out Paycheque I decided to take a listen to their music. The band only has three songs up on Spotify and I found all of them intriguing. Especially their song "Next In Line" that has the undercurrent of the Pet Shop Boys' vocals.

The band is fronted by Allison Goldfarb on keys / tracks and Jackson MacIntosh on bass. Both share vocal duties. It was mentioned during the set that the two met hanging out on the patio of Zebulon. If I caught the drift of a conversation after the set, this encounter happened just before the pandemic. I don't know if that assumption is true or not, but either way, who knows what can happen while you're hanging out at Zebulon. You might end up in a two-piece band and in love.

I have to believe that "Next In Line" is about their first encounter at Zebulon.
Can't remember what you wore.I don't know if it was 3 o'clock or 4.
Were we smiling? What we wore?
I don't think that you could stand me anymore

A poem of a random encounter where the initial perception was that a bad impression was being made. On the other hand, the other person was thinking maybe they were just the "Next In Line." The song has a melancholy feel to the music, but the song does emphasize that at night anything can happen so there is a more uplifting outcome. A deceptively moody synth-pop gem that will give you faith in random encounters.
