I first came across Powder Pink & Sweet in 2023 at Permanent Records Roadhouse. The band was playing with my favorite New York based band Laveda. You can read my US Rocker Music post from the night here. As is often the case when it comes to Los Angeles bands that I find intriguing, way too much time had passed since I last crossed paths with the band. By chance, as I was putting together my weekly Show Alerts for this blog site, I checked out what Swyndle LA had scheduled for their Harvard & Stone Monday night showcase and noticed that the promotor was putting on a Friday night show at Gold-Diggers. It just so happened that Powder Pink & Sweet was playing. An opportunity presented itself and so off I went.

Per the band's website, they have the following description about their music, "At the core of Powder Pink & Sweet is a love for contrast: airy, bouncy pop hooks that sparkle with summer-crush joy sit comfortably alongside darker, shoegaze-inspired explorations that lean into moodier soundscapes. This duality gives the project its unique voice — playful yet introspective, dreamy yet grounded."

The band split their setlist between songs from their 2022 debut album Little Stories and single releases from 2025, which may indicate that they're preparing to release a sophomore album in the near future. They kicked off the set with "Blue Sunshine" from that debut album that is Julee Cruise-inspired without the horror.
Their set was filled with instrumentals and vocals that blended seamlessly. Those vocals echoed off the walls of Gold-Diggers, providing a blanket of comfort.

Band founder Cris Verso mentioned that their 2025 release "Shadow Self" is a very dark song. Someone in the audience yelled out encouragement, "Keep it dark." It is a song about self-doubt. The band did mention that this dark song would soon be replaced with song themes that would "bring it back up." The song that brought up the emotions is my song spotlight "Raspberry Lime," which happens to be their latest release.
That song title has one thinking about a thirst quenching summer drink. The music video highlights spending summer days out and about and summer flings. Summer isn't exactly my favorite season of the year (perhaps I live in the wrong part of Los Angeles county where temperatures spike higher than others parts of the county), but the music video does have me re-thinking my seasonal preferences.
