Song Spotlight: Faydean's Rock 'Em-Sock 'Em (a night at Hotel Ziggy)

Faydean (Faydean Drew Kielty's mononymous name) brought her folk-country tunes to the WFNM showcase at Hotel Ziggy. The Los Angeles native mentioned that she wasn't able to perform much in 2025 due to nodules. She has recovered and is rearing to go in 2026. Based on a recent Instagram post she had 8 performances scheduled just in January and February (a couple as a backup vocalist).

Her Spotify bio mentions that she is just a girl with an old guitar and that her music draws, "inspiration from artists such as (but not limited to) Joni Mitchell, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Fleetwood Mac, her music bridges the gap between lyrically driven folk music and catchy country rock, making her sound uniquely her own." When it comes to music tastes, this 27 year old is an old soul.

Her song "Haunted Room" could be seen as song that mixes in the slower vibe tunes of Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac. She mentioned that it is a sad song. It was a song that had her and the backing band tapping into the wistful emotions of the crowd. One could imagine her walking along the Los Angeles River and thinking "I'm getting over the ghost of you." Of course, it would have to be the Los Angeles River with the cement slabs and not some beautiful creek flowing naturally through a forest. Which flowing stream of water is one more likely to result in emotions of sadness while walking alongside it?

Comment of the set: I'm going to tune my guitar really quick. Talk among yourselves. (The crowd obeyed and started to talking.)

Observation of the set: I swear she and her band set everything up within 5 minutes after the prior singer left the stage. It was one of the quickest turn arounds I've seen by a band.

The song spotlight goes to her final song of the night "Rock 'Em-Sock 'Em." She mentioned that it is her favorite song. The female portion of the crowd definitely enjoyed specific lyrics of the song.

Just be man and admit it
That I'm not the kinda girl you should be quittin'
It's the road you should be hittin'

Whoops and hollers were the response as soon as those lyrics were sung.

It might be a chill Americana-folk tune, but there is that what-is-wrong-with-guys hidden punch that connected with the crowd.

Partial Setlist: Haunted Room, Stealing Time, Rock 'Em-Sock 'Em.
