Song Spotlight: Olivia Soli's thanks to you (a night at Hotel Ziggy)

It was an American Idol night at the WFNM showcase at Hotel Ziggy. The night included Lola Bonfiglio (Season 23 -- 2025) and Noël Tsoukalas (Season 21 - 2023). A third former contestant of the music competition was Olivia Soli who was also in Season 21 and made it to the Top 20 -- and is the focus of this particular blog post.

Soli brought a classic glamour to her stripped-down set. She wore a retro-polka dot mini dress that blended nicely with her cheerful personality. With a friend on guitar, she did a short 5 song set, which included 3 covers. Those covers highlighted the Los Angeles native's love of country music: Patsy Cline, Brooks & Dunn, and Dolly Parton. She concluded her set with the Dolly Parton (also sung by Whitney Houston) song "I Will Always Love You." She mentioned that she's been singing that song since she could remember. Her fans (who packed the venue) in the audience screamed out their approvement once she mentioned the song.

The song spotlight goes to her latest release "thanks to you." The recorded song on Spotify opens with a steel guitar playing a few bars of musical notes, giving the song that country tone that aligns so well with her cover songs. The steel guitar was not part of her live set, but her vocals highlighted an ability to blend a country-pop vibe.

The song is about an ex-boyfriend who sounds like someone who was a little too flirtatious with other women (she highlights this point in her only other original song of the night, "no one ever warns you") while dating our singer. It got to the point where she was living a life of insecurity.

Thanks to you, I try to tip the scale.
Cause if it's low enough then maybe you won't sleep with someone else.

She doesn't live in despair; however. As is the persona she presented throughout the set, she gave a laugh after finishing the song and told the audience, "Seeing the positive out of something so negative."

Setlist: thanks to you,  I Fall To Pieces (Patsy Cline cover), no one ever warns you, Neon Moon (Brooks & Dunn cover), I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston / Dolly Parton cover).
