Sometimes you head out and the unexpected occurs. There was that time back in 2022 when I went out to cover Night Talks at The Troubadour. Cherie Currie of the Runaways showed up to sing "Cherry Bomb." Currie's cameo appearance was due to the fact that her son Jake Hays was opening up the night. You can read my Buzzbands article here.

In January 2026, another unexpected blast from the past made an appearance for Lola Bonfiglio's set at Hotel Ziggy during a WFNM showcase. Bonfiglio started off her set by singing four of her own songs. It was just her and a guitar (she mentioned that she just recently learned how to play the guitar and apologized that her playing was at the beginner level). First up was the song "Twenty" which also corresponds to the fact that she is currently 20 years-old.
Her next two songs, "Chameleon" and "So Be It" are both songs about the same relationship that she was able to laugh off by saying, "Hashtag it wrecked me." "So Be It" showcased her harmony vocals. One might wonder who shaped her vocal talents?

So you can cut the act
The final two songs gave us the answer to my question when she asked her parents to join her on stage: Carnie Wilson and Rob Bonfiglio. Carnie Wilson is part of the trio Wilson Phillips that released two vocal driven albums in the early 1990s. Lola Bonfiglio mentioned at the start of her set that she comes from a heritage of musicians. It doesn't just start with her parents. Her grandfather via Carnie Wilson is Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. One of the calling cards of three members of Wilson Phillips is that sisters Carne and Wendy were Brian Wilson's daughters while Chynna Phillips' parents were John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas.

Though I did not know that Carnie Wilson and Rob Bonfiglio were going to join their daughter on stage, I suspect that most of the packed out venue knew this was going to happen. Their first song was "In My Room" which Wilson mentioned was written by her father at around the age of 19. Their second song "California Dreamin'" was perhaps a toss out to Chynna Phillips as the song was released by both The Beach Boys and The Mamas & The Papas.
I will say that what I found funny and also endearing was that the trio (emphasis that all are talented musicians - I should mention that her dad is a touring musician) took a few beats trying to figure out the situation with where exactly to stand, spacing, and microphones. They were out there as a family having fun without the need to act polished and professional.
