Glasgow-based singer Murdo Mitchell dropped on by The Goldfish for a Rocknite LA showcase. It was one memorable showcase by this singer-songwriter with a Scottish accent. At the beginning of the set, when the crowd was standing back some ten feet from the stage, he looked out into the crowd and motioned with his hands that he wanted everyone to come forward, "Any chance I can ask a couple of favors? Can you take a couple steps towards me? F*ck, if you don't understand English, just follow the universal hand signal."

He asked if there were any Scottish people in the house, there were some cheers, but then he asked again to make sure people were being honest. I would say two or three people yelled out that they were indeed Scottish. One of those individuals yelled out repeatedly, "Rangers or Celtic?" "I've been trained not to say the answer to that," was the response. I was totally confused by this. Why would someone be yelling out about the New York Rangers and Boston Celtics? I decided to do a little digging. That individual was yelling out about two football (soccer) rivals in Glasgow, which per Google AI is based on religious preference. Celtic being Catholic and Rangers being Protestant. That is similar to me asking someone from North Carolina if they are Duke or Carolina, not religious, but close enough.

On stage was just Mitchell playing a guitar. With expressive vocals and melodic guitar picking, he easily won me and the crowd over. When he sang "Emmylou," the crowd simply went wild throughout the just shy of 5 minute song. When his guitar played the final notes, the crowd erupting into the loudest of cheers. "You're making me blush."
Though "Emmylou" was by far the crowd favorite, he ended his set by putting his guitar playing on hyperdrive for "Hollow." It was like watching a drummer putting on a show on the kit.

The song spotlight goes to "One Glass," which per The Daily Music Report is about living in the busy streets of London. It is a song that emphasizes his Scottish accent, giving the song a nice twist for an American audience. The music speeds around like one might need to speed through the London streets and Tube. He must have an affinity for the song, as he has the lyrics in his Spotify bio.
The shrapnel in my pocket.I'm saving it for rent.
Got high as a rocket.
Now I'm in descent.
My serotonin spent.
Moment of the set had to be when he encouraged people to buy his CD. Why? Because he'd sign it. Either he'd become famous and die and it would be worth way more money or he wouldn't become famous and would eventually die anyways.
