Song Spotlight: Cissi TV's I Guess I Made It (a night at Zebulon)

Cissi TV (the moniker for multidisciplinary artist Cissi Efraimsson) used the day before Halloween to celebrate her debut EP release Mixed SignalsZebulon was packed to support her accomplishment. Backing her up was an all-star of DIY Los Angeles musicians or as bassist Kelsey Hart (The Little Ghost of Death Valley Girls) put out, "Girl Power!" In additional to Hart, there was guitarist Staz Lindes of The Paranoyds and keyboardist Izzy Glaudini of Automatic rounded out the Efrainmsson's backing band.

Her Spotify has the following info about the EP: Her debut EP Mixed Signals kicks off with “I Guess I Made It” —is a tongue-in-cheek reflection on chasing dreams in LA. “It’s kind of me roasting myself,” Cissi says: “I moved to LA to ‘make it’ and ended up broke, stuck in traffic, watching another fantastic sunset from inside my shitty car on my own.” CISSI TV’s sound blends dance punk and art pop with a hint of ’80s new wave.

With vocals that flash back to The Go-Go's, Efraimsson led the quartet from behind the drum kit. During much of the set, she had a sly smile, enjoying the celebration of her EP. She had to deal with a dipping microphone stand a couple times, but was helped up by Lindes and Glaudini who immediately caught on to the fact that their lead singer was having issues. As for Lindes and Hart, they were having the time of their lives, as well. The two played off each other on stage left with Lindes having the biggest smile and Hart doing the hair flings.

Moment of the set for me: if you read my blog posts, you know I love posting set lists. During "Alien," the set list on Glaudini's keyboard floated down to the stage floor. I got to capture a few photos to help with the below 6 song setlist.

Song spotlight, I'm thinking it has to be "I Guess I Made It" as that is the focus of her Spotify bio. I'm swiping the below lyrics because it just reminded me of another expat living in America, Georgia Maq
(Aussie in that case), talking about her dating life during a set at Art Center College of Design, which you can read here.

I moved to LA.
I guess I made it.
To the dating hell.

What can be said about the music video is that she definitely bought into the Los Angeles car culture.

She also mentions sipping a green smoothy. Oh no, she hasn't also bought into the Erewhon craze.

Outside of music, the Swedish national who now resides in Los Angeles, is known for her stop motion animation, live action directing, and sculptures. Yes, a true multidisciplinary artist.

Setlist: Since You Been Gone, Alien, Mixed Signal, I Guess I Made It, Heat Slut, Wannabe (Spice Girls cover).
