Mingko (moniker for Abigail Zachko) played before a packed Zebulon crowd. And why not, it was a Rocknite showcase night. Zachko mentioned during the set that this was only their second time playing in Los Angeles. Prior to their move to Los Angeles, they attended the Berklee College of Music. Their website bio has some additional background. In Boston, they used to be in the band Ski Club and there is this quote associated with the band, "As a songwriter for the band, Abigail’s intricate and innovative compositions have helped define the group’s unique sound."

The set started off with an esoteric beginning with "cute" and then launched into a more rocking "I Don't Wanna Stay I Don't Wanna Go" that immediately started off a mosh pit that put a smile on Zachko's face. The fun of the mosh pit had people chanting "Mingko" throughout the rest of the night.
Noticed: the guitarist had issues with his guitar cable so in the middle of a song he just slipped off stage (while the band was playing) to grab a functioning cable.

Notice 2: this might have been Mingko's second time playing Los Angeles, but perhaps there is already a tradition forming around their sets. A couple people in the crowd were blowing bubbles onto the stage.
Comment of the set: How are you feeling?
That bio statement about innovative compositions does ring true. On Spotify, the words nicerock and pluckcore are used. I might also add the term jazz punk to describe their sound.

Notice 3: Towards the end of the set, feeling a bit hot on stage, there was an attempt to remove their sweater. The attempt was not totally successful as it hung from the guitar strap (or maybe that was the intent) for the rest of the set. Their guitarist and bassist would take aggressive strikes on their strings while Mingko would show off some nifty jazz-like skills on their guitar. Meanwhile the vocals had a staccato cadence.
The song spotlight goes to "Get A Job" that was their first song release in 2023. When you hear that song title, you think about a parent (or older individual) telling a younger person to go get a job. Is it really about that? I think the song title has a spin to it. The lyrics describe college life as "loneliness" and so perhaps there was an internal desire to just move on to the next stage of life. Here is this lyrical gem from the song:

I never think about it being love
Setlist: cute (intro), I Don't Wanna Stay I Don't Wanna Go, Party, Pain, Get A Job, Sugar Pot, lullaby, Pleaser, Maximal, Slipping, it's nothing!
