Less of This who uses the hashtags post-hardcore and metalcore on their Instagram account were the main attraction at Zebulon. It was a post-Christmas night of music that had them as the opening band, but it would not be an exaggeration to say that the crowd showed up early to see them. The crowd was still in the festive mood of Christmas and spent plenty of time yelling their love for lead singer Aiden Grillo and wildly pogo dancing through many of their six song setlist.

For me, this was another of my random nights out in search of new bands. I had never heard of any of the three bands on the bill though when the next two bands hit the stage I did notice that Lindsay (last name unknown) was in both bands. I previously ran across her when she briefly provided musical support for her friend Alyssa Midcalf in the moniker band Primer (covered for US Rocker Music in 2024, which you can read here).

When the band opened up with "Crest" I knew I hadn't made a mistake in going out on a rather rainy night. The music was a blend of melodic vocals with the occasional scream tossed in to add a touch of punk attitude. The song's sound was hard and always lunging forward. The band's music wasn't always a wall of aggression. "Choker" turned down the volume and focused on the more tender side of the band. It is the post-hardcore version of the power ballad.

They powered it back up to an 11 for "Paper Bag." Grillo called out to the audience to "Open this sh*t up." The crowd immediately obeyed and the floor of Zebulon opened up in the middle. In rushed the mosh pit crowd to body slam each other. Whenever a person fell (and I happened to noticed 2 people getting bumped to the floor), the nearest person to them would help lift them up and out of danger.
Setlist: Crest, Silence, Worms, Choker, New Untitled Song, Paper Bag.
If interested, the band will be playing The Airliner Bar on January 22nd.
