Ron Blakely hit the stage with high expectations on my part during their WFNM showcase at Bar Lubitsch. First off, WFNM founder Grant Owens mentioned to me that Blakely had great vocals. Then Giselle (who opened prior to their set) pumped them up during her set. (You can read my Song Spotlight of her song "Skeleton" here.)

Expectations were met with beautifully crafted vocals with a gospel, R&B sound. It was mentioned that they along with two members of the backing band have been friends for over a decade. Their setlist includes a couple unreleased songs that are likely going to be included on their upcoming debut EP Blue.
"Fill My Cup" hit with the emotional gospel heartstrings with, "I don't know if I'm gonna make it out alive." For "Carry This," a tearful story was told, "I lost both of my parents very close together, a year apart: in 2020 to 2021. I wrote the chorus and what became the second verse of this song right after I lost my Mom. When I wrote it, I was like, oh shit, I actually can't do this. My Mom was my favorite person. She'd go to all my shows. Then a year later Covid-19 took my father." There is that background, but the song is also about a mother lifting up her child, "You're going to make it my son. You won't carry this alone."

The song spotlight goes to "Tired." Okay, one reason to highlight this song is that it is currently released and so it'll give you a taste of their impeccable vocals. If you take a listen to the below Spotify link, you need to realize that this is a live performance. That should put you in awe.
The song is about ending a situationship.
You're not going to hurt me anymoreYou're not going to start another war.
No more complicated.
No more suffocated.
No more deliberated.
It's time to leave.
