Song Spotlight: Austin Manuel's Twenty Hundred Miles Away

Austin Manuel via his AM Presents Music is back at Club Tee Gee booking shows. Previously, he booked Sundays and Mondays. At the moment, he's only booking Mondays. Who knows, maybe he'll start booking Sundays at some point though he is busy running Healing Force Records. Back in 2023 when he was booking Club Tee Gee, I came across some new artists (to me) that quickly became favorites: Adriana McCassimSarah Julia (from the Netherlands), and Gold Star (a band I should have run across way before 2023).

On this particular Monday night, he booked himself, which he explained it by saying to those in the crowd who might find it a bit presumptuous, "I used to book here and now I book here again. So I booked myself. I started booking a few weeks ago so it's kind of hard to get people in."

I don't think the crowd minded at all. His set was played on a electric keyboard, which gave him the opportunity to change up the sound at times. He mentioned that for one song he was switching things up to the sound of a violin.

He gave a nice story behind his song "Twenty Hundred Miles Away," which is from his most recent album Conception. The song is about his mother who lives in Nashville and once told him that he she wishes he didn't "live twenty hundred miles away." His mom was in the audience as she had flown in to take care of his son for the weekend.

The song is sung in a bedtime story time manner, almost as if he is telling his young son about his grandmother (with maybe a more positive spin than the lyrics).
