Song Spotlight: Ashley Elle's Save Us (a night at Hotel Ziggy)

Ashley Elle was the opening act at WFNM's showcase at Hotel Ziggy. It might seem a little unusual, but she was in a pressure situation. The venue was packed by tween girls who were out in force to support their favorite Kyra Fields. The tweens were all packed at the front of the stage while her own fans were pushed to the rear of the venue.

With the look of a sensitive soul and vocals that sounded like a choir of cherubim, she won everyone over immediately with the failed romance of "October," "You left when it got colder. Make the months move slower. So I don't feel October." Meanwhile, her song "Need Me" was a more "fun and light hearted" take on the stereotype that women are needy.

The singer-songwriter has this to say in her bio, "Music has the power of capturing a feeling- sadness, grief, love, happiness and so on. We all have songs that take us back to a specific moment, a specific feeling. With that, I hope my music has the privilege to land upon some of your hearts."

Her set included 3 songs from her 2024 debut album Say Something as well as two new songs. When her set ended, a handful of those Kyra Fields tweens came up to her to say a few words and have their photos taken with her.

The song spotlight "Save Us" is about a relationship with a flawed human being who refused to take any responsibility for the failing relationship. The flaw is being an addict to alcohol and being abusive while drunk. Then the person sobers up and tries to act like nothing has happened.

Soon enough you show up at my door
Same one that you slammed the night before
Like it isn't too late to take it back (Take it back)

"I feel like the universal songwriting experience, at least for me, it's a lot easier to write sad break-up songs," she concluded after the song.

Setlist: October, Save Us, Falling, Need Me, Complicated (Avril Lavigne cover), Say Something, Make a Little Room.
