Song Spotlight: Go Betty Go's Fuzzy (a night at The Echo)

It was off to The Echo to cover The Dollyrots and Go Betty Go for US Rocker Music. You can read my review here. This was, I would say surprisingly, only my second time catching Go Betty Go live. Interestingly, the line-up this time around was very similar to that first time around. I caught the band in 2017 at The Hi Hat and they were opening up for  The Dollyrots. Also, playing that 2017 night was The Two Tens. The Two Tens did not play The Echo show, but member Adam Bones has a new band called The Manic Standstill that did play The Echo (he has also played with Go Betty Go in the past).

Though 2017 to 2025 is a large gap in time, the band recently became top of mind when it was announced in 2022 that guitarist Betty Cisneros was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I live in Glendale and will occasionally walk into Atwater Village to eat at Hugo's Tacos.  I happened to notice that the restaurant was helping raise funds via GoFundMe for her treatment. At the time of this writing, the fundraiser was just short of their $100,000 goal by $1,525. (Here is the link.)

The song spotlight is "Fuzzy," because it was during this song that the band talked about her cancer and how they recorded their 2024 album Black & Blue between chemotherapy treatments.

The song is about a lover who came in hot and then vanished. Then at some point, the individual returns:

You walk in slowly, sit right next to me
You'rе coming way too close
And now I'm itching for the door

The song starts off with: Your song was fuzzy on my radio. Perhaps this is just a band relating the experience in terms of how they interpret life or maybe it is about a Los Angeles musician who hit it big and decided that they wanted to test the waters. Eventually, of course, the person comes back -- maybe realizing that they are meant for true love and not one night stands -- but it is too late.
