I don't know why, but when Alexandra Skora came up onto the WFNM showcase stage at Hotel Ziggy I starting thinking about Arwen of Lord of the Rings and the Targaryens of Game of Thrones. Is comparing someone to a Targaryen a good thing as the family line went down in flames (or who knows, maybe if the book series is ever completed the outcome will be different from the TV series)? There was a fantasy quality to her vocals, a story telling that flowed like a crystal clear stream.

On a side note her guitarist was Jay Lee Campbell. When he joined Skora on stage, I recognized him, but couldn't place him. While writing up this blog post, I decided to see if he was in my data base of bands / singers I've seen. He played the November Haze festival back in 2023. I knew I recognized him.
Per Skora's bio, her early New York years were spent playing classical piano -- perhaps influencing the quiet melodies of her music. She took off to Tulane University before finishing up her college career at NYU. Now she's come out to Los Angeles. Will the pull of New York have her returning some day soon to that state? If so, those in Los Angeles should plan on catching a set.

She's been releases music in rapid fashion in 2024 - 2025, which I take as an indication that an EP or album release is around the corner. In the meantime, check out the song "Morning Bird". It is not a song about that irritating bird that is always waking you up in the morning. No, it is a song dedicated to former beloved pet dog.

An Instagram posts explains it as such: I wrote this one for my dog Angel who was always the cutest and most joyful in the morning - I started calling her “morning dog” because of it . . .
I’ll always wake up early just for youAnd show you how to fly into my room
Setlist: Happy Twenty-Third, Rivers and Roads, Morning Bird, Every Second Counts, Rhiannon (Fleetwood Mac cover), The Springs.
