Song Spotlight: Dama Blake's Mr. Right (a night at Bar Lubitsch)

Dama Blake (the moniker for Jessica Harper) looked both classic 1920s and modern 2020s during her WFNM showcase at Bar Lubitsch. This was my second time catching a set. Back in September 2025, she performed an acoustic set at Hotel Ziggy. I considered writing up a blog post at that time, but I hesitated as her setlist was unreleased material and her sound differed from her released material. I was uncertain if she was shifting directions or not. I was impressed enough that I made a mental note to catch a set in the future.

It was fun watching her performance as she seemed to personally connect with various individuals in the audience throughout the set, as if she were singing to them. With arms wide open, she said, "Thank you to my friends that are here. Hello to my new friends that I have not yet met." She does seem to have an outgoing personality.

The focus of her set was her single "Mr. Right" that was being released that night at 9 p.m. - about 15 minutes after her set ended. Yet, the crowd wasted no time in celebrating as they sang along to her first song of the night "Witch Hunt." Wraps her noose around my heart. I give her all my love. For her unreleased song "Warning Signs" she looked at a friend while singing You're an hour late. Those around her friend let out a gasp. Feeling a touch repentant for causing the assume putdown, she inserted quickly, "That's not about you." She inserted a cover of Lola Young's "Messy" into her set that fit perfectly with the theme of her set.

She turned her song "Call Anyway" into a sing-along. She made it into an intimate experience by taking a seat on the stage. Up next was her most played song on Spotify, "Cherry." The night closed out with the siren call of "Mein Mann."

Comment of the set: I can do cute things, also. I'm not always angry.

The song spotlight goes to her single release of the night "Mr. Right." She put this on an Instagram post, "I grew up with a lot of guilt and shame surrounding sexuality, so writing this hedonistic anti romantic story filled my body with overwhelming fear. Fear of being seen. Fear of getting in trouble. But I’m a grown woman, and this song is about my choices."

A song dripping with sexuality with pop-dance club vibes.

I don't wanna be alone tonight
You're not the one
But you are Mr. Right
To touch me
