Song Spotlight: The Franks Sisters' I Love You (a night at Hotel Ziggy)

The Jonas Brothers made a shocking surprise appearance at the WFNM showcase at Hotel Ziggy. Before I cause the rumors to fly (wouldn't it just be amusing if the AI search engines tossed out that, as they call it, "hallucination"), it was a joke tossed out by Melia Franks during her set with sister Samantha Franks. The two form the duo The Franks Sisters.

The two sisters, Samantha being the eldest, with a full band hit the R&B / soul tunes during a short five song set. It was a way too short twenty minute set. As they were walking off stage, their drummer basically forced them back to the microphones as he hit the opening beats to the encore funk cover of Allen Stone's "Satisfaction."

The two sisters have been writing music together for at least 8 years now. Melia Franks was wearing a 21 and over wrist band and it was mentioned that "Call It Off" and "Those Eyes" were written when she was 13 and 14 respectively. The duo took turns switching back and forth between lead and backing vocals while their mom looked on with pride.

The two are aligned on who takes on the bantering duties. At one point in the set, Melia Franks told the crowd, "Samantha hates to talk between songs. She gets stage fright." A few moments later that became evident when Melia went for a drink of water. Samantha got caught having to talk to the audience and spent a little time trying to search for words to fill the dead air moment, "Sh*t, what do I say, what do I say?"

The sisters' "I Love You" is a song about not totally being over a guy who wanted to settle down a lot earlier than one of the sisters.

I've always taken pride in being rough around the edges.
It looks like you've smoothed out your life with picket fences
She seems like your type

Of course, there is still some pain associated with the ending of that relationship. When the song ended, the words, "You're a pathetic loser" was tossed out with punctuation. And midway during the song, the two sisters shook hands, an indication that the two were united against the heart breaker.

Setlist: Call It Off, Those Eyes, Every Time You Talk, Hold On, I Love You, Satisfaction (Allen Stone cover).
