Song Spotlight: Club Oro's no angel (a night at The Airliner Bar)

Club Oro is the brainchild of siblings Cassandra and Connor Cronin. The duo live (or at least used to live based on Internet sleuthing) in Glendale. I live in Glendale. They're also a favorite of Buzzbands. I love Buzzbands. The band has been around since 2017-ish. The stars finally aligned properly and I crossed paths with them recently at a Rocknite showcase over at The Airliner Bar.

The band appears to be prepping their debut album Fatherless Behavior for later this year. Potentially one reason for the long delay is that, like me, they're working stiffs. Well, Cassandra may not currently be employed. She mentioned during the set that she called out her workplace that very day and quit her job. Her advice to everyone, should they decide to quit their jobs, "Be cute about it."

Their fan base showed up for their set (maybe to commiserate or celebrate with Cassandra for her job decision). Before the opening band was able to get their gear off the stage, the Club Oro fans were filling up the front of the stage. This wasn't going to be a set where fans stood 6 feet back. When the band was about to start their set, a number of people could be heard asking the crowd to quiet down.

Comment of the set: Who is shushing? I didn't authorize that.

Quiet on the set! Yes, the crowd was locked in for the band's graceful vocals (that would explode into screams) and hook filled music. The dance vibes had Cassandra jumping and swaying on stage, "I'm rocking extra hard with the screaming." She wasn't the only one dancing, so was the crowd.

Another comment of the set: I'm not texting or anything. I'm just checking my setlist.

What did I notice: The siblings are into sharing. There was the Roland creative sampler and effector that the the two would split responsibilities over. That was the most obvious, but then there was the sharing of headphones and a couple shakers.

A moment of the set: Cassandra mentioned that she forgot to do her routine of screaming before a set. The duo used to scream in the back alley. So out into the crowd she went and everyone joined in the primal therapy tradition.

The Song Spotlight goes to their most recent release "no angel." Per an Instagram post, they call the song "a sermon for the guilty but never charged." Is there a duality going on here? A song with an emphasis on the Roland.

She looks heavensent
Me, I like violence

Setlist: V.R.B., bad vibes forever, don't turn off the camera, currency baby, Cavities, true my eyes, no angel, wasted adrenals, find my.
