Sylvia Fae (aka Sylvia Fae Massey) set at Harvard & Stone (a Swyndle showcase night) was a stylish goth performance. She mentioned with a deserved sense of pride that she "produced all the tracks [of the set] in her bedroom." She is a multimedia artist. In 2024, she released a book titled I Could Be a Maggot's Feast which is a collection of "poetry, photography, and drawings from 2017-2023." The inspiration behind the book is the fact that she moved from North Carolina to Los Angeles in 2022. Not only was it a coastal move, but it was also her first time living outside of Carolina.

I have a soft spot for North Carolina as I lived there off and on for a couple years. In fact, it is the only state I've lived in outside of California. Her book is about getting "her groundings" in Los Angeles. Did I ever get myself grounded in North Carolina? I will say that I don't ever think I got used to driving in the state. I could never pinpoint where exactly I was heading. I feel like in Los Angeles, if you get lost, you can always pinpoint to a landmark and get yourself going in the correct direction. In Carolina, there are trees and hills and trees and hills and curving roads. It all looked the same to me. One big positive is that it was the first time I came across a Macaroni Grill. Why that restaurant chain has nearly collapsed is beyond me.
As always, when I come across a musician with North Carolina roots, my question is what flag does Sylvia Fae have outside her home: Carolina or Duke? Even Allstate Insurance Company knows it is the most important question in the state.

Comment of the set: That feedback was intentional.
As she mentioned, her band was small. She as the lead singer, a guitarist, and a computer running the tracks. Her music ranged from dark goth to minimalist soul. Adding to her multimedia artist skillsets were interpretative dancing throughout the set -- not in a wild akimbo manner, but in a lounge singer-ballet dancer style.

The set could be seen as her single release party for her song "Wolves" that was going to be released later that week. That makes it the Song Spotlight. I do believe she was overly excited to play the song. She introduced the fact that the song was coming out shortly and then looked towards her guitarist. Then there was a laugh. She had forgotten to start the tracks. A ballet dance introduction that led to an outpouring of emotions. Lyrics highlighting the search to find the true someone and not just what is seen in front of you.
