The Satellite: Talk Time with talker and If Climbing

I've posted a handful of photos on Instagram lately of talker. I decided I better go catch a set. What a pleasure watching talker tear through her set.

Talk Time gave us some adult contemporary sounds. They'll be at The Satellite for the month of September.

The Hi Hat: YVR, Jamie N Commons, Kid Eyes and Final Child

It was off to The Hi Hat to check out Final Child for the second time.

But up first was the dance tunes of YVR. They had some fashionable friends in the audience.

YVR
Jamie N Commons brought some country tune to the crowd. He mentioned that he got a 2019 MTV VMA nomination for one of his videos. He has great vocals. He also had the courage to ask a couple individuals in front of the stage to stop talking. How many musicians are willing to say that.

Jamie N Commons
Kid Eyes is doing a residency at The Hi Hat. Talk about body contortions.

Kid Eyes
Final Child had the floor lights going. It was cool seeing Jennifer on stage.

Bootleg Theater: T Soomian with Matthew Francis and Mini Trees

With August turning to September, that meant checking out new residencies. The first venue I went to was the Bootleg Theater where I checked out the crooning vocals of T Soomian.

Opening up was the singer-songwriter Matthew Francis. Also, Mini Trees, who I had seen briefly at Echo Park Rising and was happy to catch them again.

One Day: Two Locations - Livingmore / Cheer Up Club, The Time Travelers and The Colour Coast

It was a double billing a couple Saturdays ago. First up was a golden hour set by Livingmore who was playing a set for Street Food Cinema. The movie showing was Return of the Jedi - though I didn't stick around for the movie. It was fun shooting a golden hour set of this band.

Livingmore
After their set, I rushed home to get some photos of their set out and then it was down to the Art District area and The Factory DTLA. It has been awhile since I went to this location. Well over a year, possibly. It was a Wild Riot event when I got to catch Cheer Up ClubThe Time Travelers and
The Colour Coast.

Interesting fact: I've done interviews with all four bands.

The Echo: Automatic with Girl Friday and Diva & the Pearly Gates

I first saw Automatic at The Smell back in 2018. It was their Halloween show. I've wanted to see them ever since. This band has a Led Zeppelin vibe to them. They just jam in a driving way that just constantly builds.

Automatic

Diva and the Pearly Gates brought a little witchy-vibes to The Echo.

Diva and the Pearly Gates

Girl Friday brought the dark punk.

Hot Shot Muffler: Ruth and Kera

It was off to Hot Shot Muffler. This was the 2nd time I checked out a Purple Bite/Kensington Presents night at this cool venue that used to be a muffler shop.

Opening up was Ruth who is otherwise known as Lauren Ruth Ward. She admitted to being a touch nervous, but killed it like always.

Ruth
Kera is a musician I've followed for years. As always, her vocals carried great emotional weight.

The Hi Hat: Lunch Lady, Mo Dotti, Sam Buck and Kevin

Lunch Lady had their record release at The Hi Hat recently. Their garage rock sounds played well to a full house at The Hi Hat.

Lunch Lady
Mo Dotti is a band I've followed via Janelane. The band has grown. They have a great melodic sound going on.

Mo Dotti
Sam Buck had some funny stories. For example, that morning, he crossed path with a neighbor who told him that someone had taken a dump on their stairwell over-night.

Sam Buck

Kevin and their sound that sometimes sounds like computer beeps. Computer beeps that sound way too cool. This band could easily fit the soundtrack of 91X from the 1990s.

Harvard & Stone: Luci and Rambling Ways

Talk about some heavenly voices. Luci has three lead vocalists who just shine.

Luci
Rambling Ways brings the Latin flavored sounds. Just a thrill to catch this band.
