Song Spotlight: Taylor Jules' All Time Low (a night at Bar Lubitsch)

Taylor Jules took to the Bar Lubitsch stage for a WFNM showcase in front of a significant crowd of friends and family (from what I could tell). She was the first artist of the night and I missed perhaps half of her opening song "Real Love." As I maneuvered my way to the front of the stage to take my photos of her and her band, I came to an immediate conclusion, "Taylor has big time vocals." The night was to celebrate her debut EP The Good The Bad and The Ugliest that was being released the following night, February 27th.

Her Spotify bio says the following about her music, "Heart-drenched in bittersweet musings and velvet vocal textures, her music is melodic, reflective and primed for indie-pop infatuations."

The EP is four songs, so she rounded out her set with a couple older material tunes such as "don't give a funk." She called it, "This is my little sassy song." "Yeah, a little sassy song," came a response back from the audience. She shook her fingers at the individual in the song as she sang lyrics such as, "I waited patiently. For you to come around.

She mentioned that "Sage Advice" is "a very real life experience." A song about an ex-friend, "You're f*cking crazy, after all." She sang the song with confidence as she hit the high notes. Should I dare say there was Whitney Houston vibes. She turned to a jazz inspiration for the song "Every Little Moment." After the "Sage Advice" diss song, she turned towards a love song. This was not a love song for a significant other. Nope, this was a love song for her puppy Astro.

She added a couple cover songs, with "Penitentiary Philosophy" being the highlight that showed off her vocal range.

The song spotlight goes to "All Time Low," which per Ladygunn is about a particular tough year in her life. The song closed out the set. Not to leave the crowd on a down note, she did mention that, "I'm on the other side of this song."

The indie-pop song is about feeling depressed, but those vocals are being used as a force to lift her out of it.

I take an hour to get ready
I take forever to get dressed

Setlist: Real Love, On My Mind, don't give a funk, Sage Advice, Every Little Moment, Penitentiary Philosophy (Erykah Badu cover), Distance (Yebba cover), All Time Low.
